Janice Tayler
The collision of man made structures and organic shapes inspire my compositions. This supplies the ground on which I build colors.
Photographs of unfinished construction site, bridges and piles of demolition rubble combined with drawings of rocks and roots, Western landscape photography from 1875-1920, aerial perspectives, images of water and sand all contribute to the paintings.
Growing up farming and gardening has given me a deep connection to the earth. The future of our planet is perilous and this is a great concern to me. This concern informs my palette choices, shapes and composition. In each painting I challenge myself to come up with interesting abstract shapes through newspaper collage.
The technique of newspaper collage intrigues the viewer. With each piece it varies in its visibility. Colors are balanced harmoniously to lead the viewer on a dynamic and rhythmic ride. Through the abstract shapes the viewer can tap into their unconscious and access their imagination.
