Jennifer Drahos

My pieces are all created in the typical copper foil technique. The pieces are designed, cut, foiled, and soldered in my workshop. Most of my pieces use a variety of colored and textured glass as well as incorporating different objects and mediums including geode slices, antique plates and platters, beads, shells, polished rocks, and fossils. After designing the basic patterns, each piece develops and builds on itself. They are ever-changing and growing. Some pieces grow from a focal piece, sometimes a unique find in an antique shop, sometimes an interesting find in nature. Geometric Geodes, Asian Inspired Designs, and Madcap Adventures are the categories that encompass my pieces. The Geometric Geodes are designed and assembled based on geode slices found all over the country. Having lived in Japan, many of my pieces are influenced by the balance of the Asian culture and the sleek and smooth flowing lines in nature. Based on this, my Asian Inspired Designs are created around a variety of unique bottles, antique plates and platters, and other various containers. I also incorporate “cookies” using Japanese washi (rice) paper sandwiched between glass bevels adding an interesting flair to each piece. The final category, Madcap Adventures, reflects my whimsical side. I am often inspired to add special touches which most likely include small embellishments like faux birds and items found in nature, as well as odd pieces of glass. No matter one’s own taste, there is a unique and one of a kind piece for everyone.
